Los Angeles Schools and 30,000 Workers Reach Tentative Deal After Strike

Los Angeles Unified School District has reached a tentative deal with the Service Employees International Union Local 99, representing 30,000 education workers, following a three-day strike that closed hundreds of campuses and canceled classes for 422,000 students. Local 99 said that the school district had met its key demands, including a 30% pay increase. The deal, which runs through June 30, 2024, gives support workers a series of retroactive pay raises and sets the minimum wage at $22.52 per hour. Workers employed as of June 30, 2021, will get a one-time $1,000 bonus. The deal must still be voted on by the full union.
